A native of Ontario, Canada, Don began his climbing career after moving to San Francisco to join a tech start-up. With a busy schedule, Don made the most of his weekends with intense climbing trips into the Sierras, often driving all night Friday, then running deep into the backcountry on Saturday, then climbing all day Sunday before driving all night for work on Monday morning. In 2003 Don finally moved to Bishop to climb full time, but soon set his sights on bigger objectives in the higher mountain ranges of the world. Since then he has racked up an impressive list of achievements on 16 expeditions to the Himalayas and the Karakorum. In 2012 he began road biking, adding a long distance ultra-endurance approach to his mountain objectives. Don calls these 24-hour bike/run/climb sufferfests "UltraHurt".
