  • Pro-modorator was designed for people whose soles tilt inwards and thereby need a support under the heel. This tilts the sole into the right direction: an extremely lightweight midsole support system made out of thermoplastic urethane (TPU).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love this shoe, NOT the laces! I bought these hiking shoes for a 16-day trip to Nevada and Utah. The actual shoe performed VERY well but the shoe laces failed miserably! Agron/Adidas replaced laces for free but the replacements were also substandard. Agron gave me an on-line store gift certificate to replace the Terrex Xkings and I purchased the Terrex Scope. It is too early to tell but the Scope, while a narrow & stiff shoe, seems to be a fine shoe. I would definitely purchase these Xkings again if Adidas manufactured them with standard laces! Note: Standard laces will not work on the Xkings! The shoestring eyelet is simply too tight for anything but the speed laces! Too bad!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An update sequel review... So, since no one felt my last review mattered i figured id add that i took these to my mountain spot and they rocked literally! On and off in two shakes and into a river for a refreshing swim then back on the trail. They tighten perfectly with socks or barefooted. Every shoe should do this. My right foot is wider so no shoe fits except Terrex XKing! Adidas Outdoor...I only buy Adidas Products! I want you to sponser me as a brand ambassador. My closet is full with Adidas Outdoor GTX and Adi products. I use every piece for whatever I do. I do pools and construction. My Adi products save my life! No lie! I love Adidas. Im All In!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great trail shoe....limited sizing. Not just a gimmick, it's great to see Adidas pursue some real innovation. I would classify this as a pure trail shoe.......the lugs are definitely a bit much for flat terrain. I've found them at their best on soft, wet trails, the traction can't be beat. Lacing system is great, really secures the foot, with no pressure points. My one knock is the sizing. I'm guessing due to cost of manufacture, the X King is only available in full sizes. My 9s were too snug, so I went with the 10s and they are a tad large for me. That is why I'm only giving 4 stars....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very cool concept that actually works. Over the years there have been tons of revolutions in shoe design but very few have breached the way we are to understand how things are put together. I think the X-King actually has a new way to understand footwear. My understanding is that the insole is the shoe, the platform that makes it all work, while the tread (a thin grippy knobby tire) holds onto rocks and the upper is simply there to hold the rubber to your foot. So the designers concentrated on making a great insole which I think became the shoe. All said and done they are fantastically grippy trail shoes that are light yet supportive. I'm in and looking forward to wedging these into cracks at altitude in the Rockies and on slick rock in the dessert.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shoes, lousy laces... I bought these shoes last fall (2016) and made several hikes (no pack) in upstate New York (Lake Placid), Nevada (Great Basin NP), Utah (Arches, Dead Horse SP), Arizona (North Rim GC)... For a total of approx 100 miles. Traction on wet granite in NY and on dry rock/trails out west was outstanding. Shoes are very comfortable and durable. PROBLEM IS THE LACES fell apart at the 100 mile mark, leaving me with shoes that Adidas (even though they provided replacement laces) has no answer for! I checked multiple local outdoor hiking stores in Louisville, KY and shoe stores with no luck finding laces that work with the small lace eyelets. To Adidas' credit they sent me a $200 on-line store/shopping credit to buy new shoes. I am going to try them again and hope (!!) that more recent improvements have developed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crazy Traction Awesome trail shoes: lightweight, best traction, comfortable and great looking! Generous toe box and nice wide landing area for technical trails. Low profile gives great stability. I usually wear 12.5 and 12 worked out perfect. I suggest going down 1/2 size. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoe I was looking for an aggressive lightweight shoe for OCR and other such events, I looked at many but didn't see anything I was willing to go out and "test". I know, and like Adidas, I have been a customer for many years, and their products have stood up to many of the tasks I put to them; so I decided to give the X-Kings a try. The X-King is aggressive without the weight of many other brands; the sole and rand are one piece that comes up over the top (as seen in the pics). The tread IS a Continental X-King Mountain tyre; I have them on my bike now on my feet also. The upper seems able to take a beating and drain water well; the quick laces are a nice touch and hold secure, but time will tell how they hold in the long run. The only improvement I would suggest Adidas make is a gusseted tongue to help keep debris out. If you're not running these through the mud, dirt, and any other difficult terrain your not doing these shoes justice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Grip like no other! The Terrex X-King is your best bet for anyone hoping to get the most grip on trail! Regardless of where you wear them you won’t be disappointed with the traction they provide. I’ve worn these shoes all over and the X-king hasn’t let me down. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of shoes with traction as great as these! Terrex did well incorporating the continental compound with these shoes. The lightweight design is very comfortable and the quick laces are easy to use. I can for see issues with the laces wearing out eventually, but so far I haven’t had any issues with it. In the future I think the X-King could be better engineered with stronger, thicker laces. The only other complaint I have with this shoe is with the tongue. The design is very sleek and light-weight, but it doesn’t have a lot of cushion for your feet. This wasn’t a very big deal for me since I prefer the efficiency of the light-weight design. Overall this is a great trail running shoe with exceptional grip for those hoping to stay sure footed anywhere they go!
